Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 August 2026
This policy explains what Donum: GPS Area Measure ("Donum", "the app") does with your data. Donum is published by Hugo Software. For anything in this document, write to [email protected].
The short version: we run no server and we receive nothing about you. Everything you measure stays on your phone.
1. What we collect
Nothing. Hugo Software operates no backend for this app. We have no account system, no sign-in, no registration, no cloud sync and no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK of any kind. We cannot see your measurements, your location or your device, because none of it is sent to us.
2. Data the app creates on your device
The following is written to local storage inside the app on your own phone, and only there:
- Saved plots: their corner coordinates, name, optional note and colour, measurement type and save date
- Your settings: language, theme, units, coordinate format, map layer, walk-mode thresholds
- Whether a Donum PRO subscription is active
This data never leaves the device. It is removed when you delete plots or reset settings in the app, and it is removed entirely when you uninstall the app. Because we never receive it, we cannot retrieve, restore or delete it for you.
3. Location
Donum asks for location permission (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) so it can:
- show where you are on the map, and
- record the boundary of a plot while you walk it in Walk mode.
Location is read only while the app is open and in the foreground. Donum does not request background location permission and does not track you when the app is closed. Your position is processed on the device, used to draw on the map and to compute area, and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
You can refuse or later revoke the permission in Android Settings. The app keeps working: you can still measure by tapping corners on the map. Only Walk mode and the "go to my location" button need it.
4. Third parties
Two third parties necessarily see something as a technical consequence of using the app:
Map tile providers (OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap, and the Humanitarian tile layer). Displaying a map means requesting map images from their servers, and such a request unavoidably reveals your IP address and the approximate area you are viewing. We do not control these operators and receive nothing back from them beyond the tile images. Their own policies apply — see openstreetmap.org/copyright.
Google Play Billing. If you subscribe, Google processes the purchase and the payment. We never see or store card numbers or any payment credential. Through the Play Billing client on your device the app can only observe whether an active subscription exists. Google's handling of that transaction is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
We do not sell data. We do not use data for advertising or profiling. There is nothing to sell or profile with, because we hold nothing.
5. Children
Donum is a general-purpose land measuring tool. It is not directed at children and we knowingly collect nothing from anyone, including children.
6. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over personal data a company holds about you. Hugo Software holds no personal data about users of this app, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or erase. You have full and direct control of the data on your device: delete it in the app, or uninstall the app.
If you subscribed, Google holds your purchase record. Contact Google Play support for that data.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page with a new date.
